You missed a couple of real bastards. Dr. Oliver C. Wenger and Dr. Raymond H. Vonderlehr were the architects of the Tuskegee Study in which African-American men with syphilis were left untreated over long periods of time to establish the natural progression of the disease and subjected to painful procedures such as spinal taps (which they were told were "special free treatments"). Our tax dollars at work (the research was done with funding and under the auspices of the US Public Health Service).

The study began in 1932. By its end in 1972 (after whistleblowers gave details of the study to the press), only 74 of the original 399 infected test subjects were alive. 28 of them died of syphilis, 100 died of related complications, 40 of their wives had been infected, and 19 of their children had been born with congenital syphilis.

Throughout the study, deception and outright lies were used to deprive study participants of treatment, even after penicillin had been discovered to be a safe and effective treatment for the disease in the mid-1940s.

By comparison, Johann Conrad Dippel's grave robbing (you didn't mention "Dippel's Oil" - which is probably just as well for anyone reading this while eating) was seriocomic at worst.

"There were rumors of him being driven out of town by angered townsfolk after blowing up a tower at Castle Frankenstein with nitroglycerine"

wtf, they didn't have nitroglycerin in the 1600's nor is there an e at the end

"Nitroglycerin was the first easily developed explosive stronger than black powder. It was discovered by chemist Ascanio Sobrero in 1847"
