
The University of Minnesota, Crookston has retooled its online communications degree by adding three areas of emphasis that will clearly define the communication program of study for students. A statement from the university explains that the decision to add the emphases was made after a review of the current program.
By emphasizing communication studies, organizational communications/public relations, and writing students will be able to personalize the selection of 21 credits within or outside of the communications program. University faculty have noticed that one of the more popular choices has been combining communications classes with a concentration of courses in marketing.
Students who emphasize the organizational communications/public relations will focus on communication within organizations and public systems. Additionally, the organization communication emphasis exposes students to the internal organizational power and politics, and provides a skillset that allows for effective external communication with the public.
The writing emphasis addresses the theories and practices of writing for corporate and public forums and is designed to prepare students to meet the realities of the current marketplace states a university news release.
