Video games can become quite addictive. Hours in front of the screen, accomplishing nothing, aside from virtually saving the planet from utter destruction, of course. But do games offer something to gain other than weight and sleep deprivation?

MindSnacks, the online education gamification tool, offers users the ability to learn various languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese, and Portuguese. The edtech has 1,000 words and phrases in each language stored in its system, along with 50 lessons, and six games to help teach the selected language.

The gaming tool offers English to ESL users who speak Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese. It also offers SAT prep games for students and soon will launch math and geography learning games.

Much like other adaptive learning tools, MindSnacks’s curriculum adapts to a user’s progress through its personalized learning algorithms.

The app is available in the App Store.

The company announced at the beginning of this month it raised $6.5 million from Sequoia Capital for its expansion efforts.
