Desire2Learn Raises $80 Million in Funding Round

Desire2Learn, an online learning platform company, announced today it raised $80 million in its most recent round of funding. Its funding came from investors New Enterprise Associates and OMERS Ventures.

Desire2Learn is a cloud-based learning system with various products including its learning management system, Learning Environment, and Capture, which allows for users to record and broadcast their presentations with their organization. The system’s education products can be used on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

“The need for quality education has never been stronger than right now,” John Baker, president and CEO of Desire2Learn, said in the company’s press release. “That demand, along with technology serving as a catalyst for change, is transforming education from the traditional classroom experience into a highly personalized, lifelong learning movement.”

The company offers its Learning Suite, focused on higher education, which includes webinars and conferences, along with tools to allow students to collaborate with each other and their instructors.

The online learning company has more than 700 clients and 8 million users globally ranging from K-12, higher education, and Fortune 1000 companies.
