Ira Socol is a self-described educational provocateur who works to re-imagine education based on history, postcolonial theory, liberation theology and observation. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at Michigan State University and works extensively with the school’s Integrated Technology Initiative, where he developed the Freedom Stick universal design application suite. He lectures nationally and internationally on the need to radically change the four technologies of education—time, the division of students and content, spaces and information and communication tools—in order to give all students the opportunity to succeed.
