The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is one of 11 schools in the University System of Maryland, and was founded in 1947 to provide professional, distance, and eventually, online education. In addition to its Washington, D.C., locations, it also has campuses in Asia and Europe.
UMUC offers more than 100 online certificates and bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a variety of fields. Online students can reap the benefits of UMUC’s location near the nation’s capital, by pursuing a degree in one of many government-related specializations such as investigations, homeland security, biodefense, cybersecurity, and intelligence management.
Bachelor of Arts degrees are offered in communication studies, history, East Asian studies, humanities, English, and graphic communication. Bachelor of Science degrees are offered in fields including accounting, criminal justice, cybersecurity, human resource management, legal studies, and psychology. Each degree can be paired with one of several minor options, including supply chain management, diversity awareness, forensics, gerontology and aging services, microbiology, small business management and entrepreneurship, and women’s studies.
Master’s degree programs are offered in fields including accounting, biotechnology, healthcare, intelligence management, distance education, and non-profit management. Doctoral degrees can be earned in management and management with a specialization in community college policy and administration.
UMUC is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
