Drexel University Online, the online arm of Philadelphia-based Drexel University, has launched an online graduate certificate in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Health. The program, which is administered by the School of Public Health, is designed for practicing healthcare professionals who wish to specialize in LGBT health issues or wish to further their understanding of the unique healthcare issues that may arise when caring for LGBT patients.

Students will take three required courses for the nine-hour certificate. The required courses cover topics including ethics in research of “rare or hidden groups;” analyzing health outcomes; LGBT community health disparities such as HIV/AIDS or intimate partner violence; and perspectives and health outcomes across intersections of society.

For the 2012-2013 school year, tuition is $960 per credit, with discounted rates for alumni, members of the military, and members of Drexel’s partner network.

The certificate in LGBT health is one of three public health certificates Drexel offers. The school also offers online certificates in epidemiology and biostatistics, and in global health.
