Not-for-profit Western Governors University (WGU) announced today it is launching a scholarship program – the Go Further in IT scholarship – for current information technology professionals to return to school.
The program is geared toward IT professionals with associate degrees who enroll in one of WGU’s five online Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programs or its online Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics program. Students can earn a bachelor’s degree with a focus in IT in five fields: general IT, network administration; network design and management; security; or software. WGU’s IT programs also provide industry certifications to enrolled students for free.
It is a competitive scholarship program, so awards will be based on academic records and readiness. Candidates must first be admitted to WGU, provide proof of earning an associate degree, have IT career experience, and demonstrate financial need.
WGU will award up to 10 scholarships worth $2,000 each. Recipients may receive up to $500 per term for up to four terms, which is the cost of roughly one-sixth of a term. The IT programs at WGU cost a flat rate of $2,890 per six-month term.
As a competency-based university, WGU’s curriculum is designed to allow students to move quickly through courses and subjects they already have mastered, and spend more time on what they have yet to learn.
