Nicholls State University recently announced it will now offer its first online bachelor’s degree programs next year through a separate entity, Nicholls Online, according to a story in the student newspaper, The Nicholls Worth.
Nicholls Online will offer bachelor of science degrees in general studies, organizational leadership, and business administration; bachelor of arts degrees in history, English, and sociology; and an RN to BSN nursing degree program. The online programs are expected to utilize the same curriculum as the campus program.
The general studies curriculum includes coursework in a variety of fields, such as fine arts, English, history, math, science, social science, communication, and humanities. Students will also choose an academic minor through which they can specialize in their general coursework. The business administration curriculum requires coursework in accounting, business law, communications, marketing, management, economics, and computer information systems. Information for the organizational leadership and RN to BSN programs is not available.
A bachelor’s degree in history will require coursework in geography, a foreign language, government, sociology, and several upper level courses in history. An English degree allows for concentration in either technical writing, creative writing, or writing and rhetoric, and requires coursework in humanities, communications, literature, literary analysis, and intensive writing. Information for the sociology program is not available.
Nicholls State University is based in Thibodaux, La., and is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
