The University of Northern Iowa has announced it plans to offer a master’s degree in physical education teaching and coaching beginning in the spring. The application process is currently underway, and full consideration is given to applications submitted by Nov. 15.

The Master of Arts program is designed for teachers and coaches seeking to become more effective physical education instructors.

The 30-credit program is delivered as a cohort – meaning all students who start at the same time go through the program together – and lasts five semesters. The spring 2013 cohort students will graduate after the fall 2014 semester.

Students will take courses in curriculum theory and design; effective teaching; motor control and learning; sport psychology; quantitative methods in health and physical education; and seminars and practica.

Regardless of physical location, all students will pay $431 per graduate credit in the 2012-2013 school year.

The University of Northern Iowa is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
