Highest Degree Level
Nova Southeastern University found its roots in 1964 when a handful of students were the first to attend the tiny college. Since that time, Nova has grown to become the nation’s eighth-largest non-profit, independent university enrolling over 28,000 students. Though Nova Southeastern changed names multiple times, the mission and goal of the university has remained the same. For years, Nova has delivered quality, relevant degree programs to over a hundred thousand students across the nation and around the world. Nova Southeastern University has received accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (COC, SACS) to award degrees at the associate, bachelor, master, specialist, and doctoral level.
First-time college students seeking admission to Nova Southeastern University must provide official high school transcripts, SAT/ACT scores, and a completed application to the office of admission to be considered. Transferring students must show transcripts from all previously attended colleges regardless of whether or not credit was received. Nova will accept a maximum transfer of 90 credit hours from regionally accredited institutions towards degree programs. To be considered a transfer student, a minimum of 24 semester hours must be completed at a regionally accredited college or university or the student must meet first-time student requirements.
In addition to the admission requirements already listed, international students must also submit a completed application and proof of English proficiency through the TOEFL, the IELTS, or passing Academa II Levels from the Language Institute at Nova. International students can also prove proficiency in English by achieving a verbal score of 480 or higher on the SAT or a score of at least 20 on the ACT. Additional information about international admissions can be viewed by clicking here.
Admission requirements for graduate level programs vary but typically include a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement, completion of a bachelor’s degree (often with a minimum GPA requirement as well), letters of recommendation, acceptable GRE or GMAT scores, a portfolio, personal statement, and/or years of professional experience relevant to the student’s degree program. The Online Classroom
Wherever students have access to the internet, they have access to the degree program they have chosen through Nova Southeastern University. As a leader in online degree programs, Nova provides online degrees through the web-based platform which allows students to utilize a central location for their educational materials, course content, and communication. Student-teacher and classmate communication is facilitated through a range of resources including email, discussion forums, and chat. This provides a sense of community even though students are participating via the internet.
Course materials are delivered through real-time electronic classrooms, discussion forums, and threaded bulletin boards. The online classrooms support graphical presentations, audio, and submission of assignments. Email addresses and a directory make publishing and availability of assignments and resources simplified for students and faculty members alike. Online databases are available through the electronic library to help students research and study for assignments.
Of the online undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and graduate certificate programs, 76 have been certified by the Southern Regional Education Board’s Electronic Campus and are offerd through that consortium. Currently, Nova offers over 25 online bachelor’s degree programs, over 50 at the master’s level, and five doctoral programs. Many of the bachelor’s degrees come with a Dual Admission Program option to allow the student to complete their undergraduate degree and master’s within a shorter time-frame. Because classes are completed online, every student enrolled at Nova Southeastern University has the ability to work while pursuing their higher education.
Because the faculty members are such a fundamental part of the experience and education students receive online, Nova Southeastern University has made sure to employ only those who remain consistent with the mission, vision, and core values of the University. Nova seeks to encourage excellence and innovation in teaching, research, learning, and service; professors and instructors are significant participants in making this vision a reality.
