Highest Degree Level
Early in the 1900s, B. Clarence Evans founded a school that would later become the University of the Southwest. It is said that he got the idea to start a school while sitting on top of a tower. It is here that he said God talked to him and inspired him to start a school that would give New Mexico a Christian education. After years of planning, Hobbs Baptist Church was chartered as a two-year junior college and then later changed to New Mexico Baptist College when it became a four-year college in 1958. As the school continued to grow, the institution moved towards a non-denominational, four-year liberal arts college. The name was changed again in 2008 as the school began to offer online degrees. Today, the University of the Southwest is a school that is comprised of traditional and nontraditional students from all over the world.
Undergraduate students that are interested in attending the University of Southwest for undergraduate programs will start the admission process by submitting an application. Students are also responsible for submitting a high school transcript or GED, any prior college transcripts, ACT or SAT score and a $25 application fee. Students that have been homeschooled and do not have official documents are able to submit portfolios explaining their education.
The application process for graduate students is relatively the same as applying to any undergraduate programs. Interested students will fill out the online application and submit it. Along with submitting the application, students will need to send in all official transcripts showing that they have an undergraduate degree from an accredited university. Students are also expected to turn in a $50 application fee. This fee can be paid by students over the phone.
