Institutions of higher education in Massachusetts continue to work towards improved and affordable online education. The forward-thinking New England Board of Higher Education has done much to support regional cooperation of higher education institutions across six states, most notably with the creation of the cost-saving Regional Student Program “Tuition Break” that enables students at public colleges to take advantage of shared educational opportunities and tuition breaks in traditional and online course formats. In 2013-14, some 9,533 New England residents participated in the program, saving an estimated total of $56 million on tuition.
