Totaling 36 credits, the degree plan comprises six core classes in topics like leadership theory foundations, organizational behavior, and research methods and design. The online master's in organizational leadership program allows students to pursue one of three concentrations: executive leadership, leadership development, or sports management. Distance learners round out graduate training with a capstone project in which they apply core program competencies and outline intellectual and professional goals.

Applicants must hold regionally accredited baccalaureate credentials with a minimum 3.0 GPA. They also provide official transcripts, a 3-5-page personal essay, two recommendation letters, and a resume or CV. APU does not require GRE/GMAT scores.
