Between 2008 and 2014, the average tuition inflation-adjusted rate at four-year public schools in Mississippi rose 22.7%.

Mississippi raised its local and state grant spending per college student by over 23.8% between 2009-12, more than twice the average spending increase for all states during the same period.

At just over $6,000, the average tuition rate at four-year public universities in Mississippi today is significantly lower than the $9,139 national average.

Mississippi enrollment rates climbed 19% across all public higher education institutions between 2002 and 2012.

According to a recent NCES report, in fall 2012, 9.1% of students enrolled in Title IV institutions in Mississippi (16,371 students) were in exclusively online programs.

An Online Education at Mississippi University for Women

At MUW, students can pursue graduate degrees and certificate programs fully online. Online undergraduate degrees follow the 2+2 format, wherein students must complete the first two years of their program at a community college before completing the final two at MUW. Courses are hosted on the Blackboard platform, which students and faculty use to access course materials. Blackboard Mobile offers additional convenience with native support for iPhones, iPads, Androids, Blackberry, and HP webOS devices. Students are issued an MUW email address used to login and access all available courses, as well as student account information.

Students pursuing online degrees at JSU use the Blackboard platform to access the virtual classroom, where they are able to submit assignments, review grades, take quizzes and exams and post on discussion boards. An Online Education at University of Mississippi Medical Center

The virtual classroom at UMMC is currently undergoing a renovation as they switch from the Blackboard LMS to Canvas. The change should be complete by the summer semester of this year, and students will have full access to course materials, including assignments, syllabi, threaded discussions, video lectures, tests and quizzes. The university currently offers a variety of health related online degree programs, mainly through their 2+U offerings, designed as degree completion programs for students transferring from a community college with an associate degree.

A virtual degree from BU gives students the flexibility to pursue course loads that work with their life and family schedules. An Online Education at Mississippi College

MC uses the Moodle platform to deliver course materials to online students. On Moodle, students and faculty have discussions, look at course work and complete short quizzes. All online students can access Moodle content as well as their personal accounts through the MyMC portal using their MCmail email address. Student accounts are managed on the Banner platform.

Academic Excellence scholarships are open to freshmen at the University of Mississippi. Selection is based on academic achievement. To qualify for the maximum award of $6,996 per year, students must have a GPA of 3.0+, an ACT score of 33+ and SAT score of 1440+.

Bright Flight Scholarship

The Bright Flight Scholarship is for freshmen entering an undergraduate program in Missouri. To be eligible, students must score within the top 3% of all Missouri high school seniors taking the ACT in their senior year. Funds are administered by the Missouri Department of Higher Education.
